Comfort

One of the most important things I strive for here at birdie b's is not the look of an outfit but the comfort. Don't get me wrong, I want the clothes to be irresistible but I have seen many cute clothes out there for children. They are everywhere. When you stop and think about some of these outfits though you can't actually imagine your child being comfortable in them. They may be good for a picture but little else. Children want to be able to play and jump and run.

That is why I take the time to think about what I am making. Will this be something a child will want to wear. Even the prettiest of dresses must be something that they can move and stretch in. Otherwise dressing your child will be a fight and whats the point of spending money on something you have to struggle to get them in?

This is why I love elastic waists. This is why I avoid placing any tags on the inside of my clothing. I encase the elastic on my dresses so it's not against your child's skin. I take the time to think if what I am creating will be something both you and your child can enjoy. This is what I want birdie b's to be known for.

Picking Fabrics

I've had some people ask me how/why I choose the fabrics that I do.  There really isn't much to it. There are three different reasons I may grab a fabric.

My latest stack of finds

Most of the time I am drawn to a certain fabric whether because of color or pattern. Many times I don't know exactly what I will do with this fabric but I purchase it knowing it will make something beautiful.

I was drawn to this navy fabric. I just fell in love.

Then there is the fabric that I spot and I immediately can picture using it with a certain pattern or making something special for a particular person.

I spotted this one and thought of a pattern I hadn't tried yet but wanted to. I can picture it with a red sash around the waist.

Lastly there is the fabric bought specifically for a certain project. Whether someone wanted a pink dress or something for their child's birthday. This fabric is bought under specific requirements. Though this is the least "fun" way to buy fabric I always love seeing what I can find that is absolutely spectacular under certain parameters.

When I saw this one I hoped it was purple enough (since it really is more pinkish than purple) for Sophia's liking. This girl won't add anything to her wardrobe that isn't purple. She agreed and so now it will become her Easter dress. I bought extra though thinking I could so so much with this.

Welcome

Welcome to birdie b's blog! I am going to use this blog to keep everyone updated on what is going on over here at birdie b's as well as letting you in on all of my sewing adventures. I encourage you to include me on your blogroll so you can know about upcoming events that birdie b's may be involved in as well as to get a good laugh or two. You don't think you laugh from a children's clothing website, well you haven't seen me sew! Plus with 4 little munchkins running around there is always a laugh round here.

I hope you all enjoy following me on my new adventure known as birdie b's.
